Sepideh Mahabadi was born in Iran and after receiving her B.Sc. in Computer Engineering from the Sharif University of Technology in Iran she is now a third year PhD student in Theory of Computation Group , Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Lab, at MIT.
When she was 18 years old she made history after receiving a gold medal at the prestigious International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI). She was the second girl to win a gold medal in the history of the Olympiad and the first Iranian girl to win one.
Sina Sadeghian, Saeed Reza Sedighin, and Hesamodin Akhlaghpor, the other members of Iran’s team, won three silver medals.
The 2007 IOI, which was held in Croatia August 15-22, is one of the most prominent computer science competitions in the world, which gathers nearly 300 top students from 77 countries every year.
